Indeed. Cars are a huge part of the issue. The idea that humans need a 3K pound plus contraption to move their little bodies around and conduct their lives is absurd. More broadly, I blame an obsession with labor avoidance as the real culprit. In pursuit of ease and comfort, we've denuded forests, pillaged the earth's interior, exploited billions of people, and more...all so we can move faster, have cooler/warmer interior spaces, and so forth. Life would be a lot easier and the world a lot prettier if folks learned to love and grow from difficulty.
