I think life in 2024 America sucks so bad, people overstate the benefits of what they got--self employed being better than having a boss in an office, a peaceful home to find relief from an otherwise shitty American existence, and so forth. However, when people have strong social connections, work isn't the end all be all. When people have fun, social lives, they aren't as desirous of peaceful, isolated homes to escape those lives.
